Nonequilibrium lower-rotational-level populations of CO, CS, and SiO molecules for a wide range of interstellar gas densities and temperatures are calculated for a specified radiation temperature of 2.76 K. It is found that differences between the gas and radiation temperatures lead to significant deviations from Boltzmann population distributions in cases where the radiative and collisional transition probabilities are of the same order of magnitude.
