Magnetite grains in ALH 84001, cited as evidence of martian life, could
have formed abiotically by thermal decomposition of Fe-rich carbonates.
Thomas-Keprta et al. (2009) criticize this abiotic hypothesis; their
criticisms lack merit and do not disprove the hypothesis.
