Modeling studies are carried out using the Sheffield University
Plasmasphere-Ionosphere Model (SUPIM) to explain the observed
north-south ionospheric differences at mid latitudes. The model results
qualitatively reproduce and explain the observed differences in electron
content and in the occurrence of nighttime increases.
