The Pleiades is a particularly attractive target to search for brown dwarfs because it is relatively nearby, relatively rich and because its age of ~ 70 Myr is old enough so that one doesn't have to worry about accretion disks or large extinction corrections (as is true for brown dwarf searches in star forming regions) yet it is young enough that brown dwarf members of the cluster should still be relatively bright and warm. As a result, at least three groups have searched for Pleiades brown dwarf members and each group has published candidate lists. The three groups differ greatly in the predicted population density of Pleiades brown dwarfs, however. I will attempt to analyse the three surveys in a consistent manner and provide a ``conservative" estimate of the probable number of Pleiades brown dwarfs detected to date. I will also summarize recent spectroscopic studies of the Pleiades brown dwarf candidates.
