The present status of the Steward Observatory speckle interferometer system is presented, including development of instrumentation and basic reduction software, analysis of atmospheric properties, work on image reconstruction techniques, and observations of astronomical objects and certain classes of orbiting satellites. The speckle camera is improved with a TV acquisition and guiding camera, a knife edge telescope focusing mechanism and microprocessor control of a pair of zero mean deviation prisms, which correct for atmospheric dispersion. Properties of the instrument and the seeing properties at various sites are discussed. Data analysis is presented along with the two approaches towards image reconstruction. The first involves modeling of the object and subsequent adjustment of the model parameters to improve agreement between the observed and predicted auto-correlation function. The second approach is the blind image reconstruction method. Attempts at reconstructing images from real data are reported to have been successful in the case of a binary star. Other results of asteroid, quasar, and Pluto observations are reported.
