The metallicities of the globular cluster 47 Tucanae and the old disk cluster NGC 2420 are redetermined from high-dispersion spectroscopy and from photometry with the Washington system. The mean iron deficiency of 47 Tucanae is -1.2, and oxygen is enriched relative to iron. The photometric data suggest that the CN or CH bands are also enhanced. The iron deficiency of NGC 2420 is approximately -0.7, with no enrichment of oxygen. The impact of these results on the interpretation of globular cluster color-magnitude diagrams, and on theories of galactic chemical evolution, is discussed.
