The response of various types of galaxies to barred perturbations is studied, with emphasis on the regions near the Inner Lindblad Resonance(s) and the particle resonance (corotation). If there is only one ILR a bar in general starts at the ILT and ends at corotation. If there are two ILR's a bar can exist between the center and the inner ILR, and/or between the outer ILR and corotation. The inner bar can extend up to the outer ILR if its amplitude drops sufficiently fast. If there is no ILR, or if the two ILR's are very close to each other the bar can extend all the way from the center up to corotation.
