In previous work we have studied long-term solar cycle activity described by Lorenz type dynamical systems. Poincaré maps gave numerical evidence that the flow has an attractor with fractal structure. We also found a relationship between a short cycle and a strong following cycle. Maunder minima-like cycles appeared when time-series of the toroidal field were studied. In this work we focus on short-term solar magnetic activity as describe by magnetic field photospheric measurements. We have studied multi-fractal structures in magnetograms observed with HMI onboard SDO. Examples of multi-fractal spectra for various complex activity regions will be presented. To further describe the capability of active regions to produce solar flares we have extended the studies to include descriptions of the transverse magnetic field component. The first attempts of the multi-fractal studies of vectomagenteograms will be discussed.
