We have examined average scale heights derived from co-located measurements of the CHAMP and GRACE neutral density measurements for 2007 and 2008. These average scales are compared with scale heights determined from the MSIS model for the same geophysical conditions. For the case where the modeled and measured scale heights agree, one can estimate the compositional distributions from the MSIS model. In the case where they do not, the inputs to MSIS can be changed to better match the average MSIS scale heights with the data, and thus get a better estimation of the true composition. At the winter poles during June of 2007 and December of 2008, scale heights determined from GRACE and CHAMP indicate low atomic oxygen densities and a larger percentage of helium than during other times of the year. The largest percentage of helium was found at the June 2007 winter pole.
