An account is given of the influence of the theoretical works of Niels Bohr on astrophysics. In three papers published in 1913, Bohr proposed that the dynamical equilibrium of a system in a stationary state can only be discussed on the basis of ordinary mechanics, while the transitions between stationary states cannot. The process of transition is accompanied by uniform emission; the relation between the frequency of emission and its energy is given by Planck's theory. Attention is given to the relationship of these principles to the work of Pickering (1896) and Evans (1913).
