The geologic evolution of Gaspra, as revealed in Galileo's SSI images taken during the October 1991 flyby, is summarized. The morphology of different surface features is examined, and it is shown how these relate to subtle and systematic color differences across the asteroid. The information is then used to construct a consistent model for Gaspra's evolution. In particular, the discusssion covers Gaspra's shape, crater frequencies, crater age, crater depths, color variations, grooves, and regolith development.
