The Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft continues its mapping mission in circular orbit at 400 km above the surface of Mars. We present the first complete global maps of the magnetic field of Mars measured at mapping altitude. These data are corrected for small but significant spacecraft-generated magnetic fields using spacecraft maneuvers that were obtained in February 2000. The maps are consistant with earlier results, obtained during the aerobraking phase of the mission, showing the most intense crustal magnetization in the southern hemisphere, or more precisely, south of the crustal dichotomy boundary. Fully calibrated and corrected mapping phase data have been archived with the Planetary Data System (August, 2000) and additional mapping cycles will be delivered as reprocessing for spacecraft fields progresses.
