We propose the observation of two narrow-line, [O III] luminous AGNs (z<~0.05) aimed at discovering clearcut examples of local Compton-thick (CT) quasars, that are still lacking so far. Previous low-quality observations provided strong, but not definitive, indications of a reflection-dominated X-ray spectrum in both sources. The large [OIII] luminosities should ensure an intrinsic X-ray luminosity typical of quasars. Thanks to the expected photon statistics the proposed observations will shed definitive light on the CT nature of the absorber in these sources. Our program is designed to miminize the risks of non-detection of the target and/or ambiguous results that have affected several blind searches for CT luminous AGNs performed to date.
