The results of observations of 16 spiral galaxies are presented in which CO-13 1-yields-0 emission is studied to examine relationships with CO-12 1-yields-0. The observations are conducted with the NRAO 12-m telescope, 3-mm SIS receivers, and a 256-channel x 2 MHz spectrometer. CO-13 is detected in the centers of all of the galaxies examined, and most of the central beam ratios are between 7 and 11. Comparisons of the results with the CO-12 figures reveal that CO-12 is a good tracer for molecular mass and that the ratio of CO-12 to CO-13 is independent metallicity. The ratio is further found to be independent of inclination angle, Hubble type, and the ratio of CO to CS emission. The most significant findings are that the ratio CO-12/CO-13 is not related to surface gas density and that the CO-12 emission is effective in the tracing of H2 in spiral galaxies.
