The X-ray solar physics satellite Yohkoh has provided us with a number of new findings about the high temperature and high energy processes occurring in solar flares, in active regions, and in the background corona. New clues to the mechanism of flares thus-far hidden in the yet fainter stages before the start of flares were revealed by the high sensitivity, high cadence observations by Yohkoh. The same merits also allowed to see, for the first time in its full form, unexpectedly dynamical behavior of the faint background corona.
