Active Galactic Nuclei: Variability, Active Galactic Nuclei: X Rays

Scientific paper

The authors study the properties of optically selected AGN with detected X-ray counterparts (OSXC). They find indications for a statistical correlation of optical and X-ray activity. Optical variability is stronger in the OSXC sample than in the whole AGN sample. The optical variability seems uncorrelated with the broad-band spectral index αox. A strong correlation between the monochromatic X-ray and optical luminosity is found with Lx ∝ L01.1.
