The authors report on optical follow-up spectroscopy performed on ROSAT PSPC sources in a ≡5 deg2 field from the CFHT quasar survey. The field has been observed in 9 ROSAT pointings at the 1×10-14erg cm-2s-1 flux level, leading to the detection of 65 of the 149 CFHT survey quasars in X-rays. Optical follow-up spectroscopy of X-ray objects brighter than 5×10-14erg cm-2s-1 has resulted in the detection of 17 additional quasars in the field, with optical magnitudes at or above the sensitivity limit of the CFHT quasar survey (m < 20.5). These objects have relatively low redshifts (0.5 ⪉ z ⪉ 1.0) and are X-ray brighter (<αox> ≡ 1.2) than the optically selected CFHT survey quasars (<αox> ≡ 1.5). In addition, 10 X-ray sources could be identified with narrow emission line galaxies. The sample properties are compared with model predictions based on an accretion disk model and on the X-ray and optical quasar luminosity functions.
