Seyfert Galaxies: X-Ray Spectra

Scientific paper

The X-ray spectra of Seyfert 1 galaxies is reviewed, with emphasis on ASCA data. The standard reflection model is outlined and the various components identified. The variable warm absorber in MCG-6-30-15 is discussed in some detail and it is shown that at least two absorbers are required; an O VIII absorber at or within the BLR and an O VII absorber at or beyond the putative unifying torus. The evidence for broad iron emission lines is presented and the profile and variability of the line in MCG-6-30-15 discussed. There are indications that the Kerr metric is needed and that the very innermost parts of an accretion disc are involved.
