The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) provides an ideal laboratory to study astrophysical processes in the interstellar medium. It is the nearest external galaxy in which interstellar structures can be studied in detail over the entire galaxy without formidable foreground obscuration. ROSAT observations of the LMC have detected large-scale unbounded diffuse X-ray emission as well as enhanced emission within large shell structures. These observations allow to examine the distribution of the hot ionized medium in the LMC, probe the hot interior of supergiant shells and superbubbles, diagnose supernova remnants, and empirically study the multi-phase structure of the interstellar medium.
