Cygnus Loop: X Rays, Cygnus Loop: Radio Structure

Scientific paper

The ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS) is an ideal dataset to utilize in studying extended X-ray emission, in particular the emission from large angular size supernova remnants. The authors report analysis of the RASS observations of the Cygnus Loop. The complete high resolution X-ray image of the Cygnus Loop is presented. The Cygnus Loop shows X-ray emission from a more extensive region than previously appreciated, including the southern blow-out region and a newly detected western bubble. The structure of the Cygnus Loop in X-rays is compared to the radio structure observed (Leahy and Roger, 1995) using the synthesis telescope of the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory, Penticton, Canada.
