Supernova Remnants: X-Ray Spectra

Scientific paper

The authors report the observational results of two young SNRs, Kepler's SNR and Cas A, observed with the ASCA SIS in the energy range of 0.5-10 keV. The X-ray spectrum of Kepler's SNR can be well represented by a multi-Te model whose Te distribution is based on the reverse shock model. The authors derive the metal abundances by using K-X ray lines which favors the Type I origin. The authors obtain spatially resolved X-ray spectra of Cas A. Line center energies for various emission lines differ from position to position which can be attributed to the Doppler shift. The velocity fields of Si, S and Fe are qualitatively similar to each other. Assuming that the Doppler shift is the only origin of the difference in line center energies, Fe runs faster than other elements.
