X-Ray Sources: X-Ray Spectra, X-Ray Sources: White Dwarfs

Scientific paper

The super-soft source RX J0925.7-475 was observed with the ASCA SIS and its energy spectrum was studied in detail with a superior energy resolution (ΔE/E ≍ 10%) for the first time. A simple blackbody model does not fit the data, and several absorption edges of ionized heavy elements are required. Without absorption edges, the best-fit blackbody radius and the estimated bolometric luminosity are 6800 (d/1 kpc) km and 1.2×1037(d/1 kpc)2erg s-1, respectively, which may be appropriate for a white dwarf. Introducing absorption edges significantly reduces the best-fit radius and luminosity to ≡140 (d/1 kpc) km and 6×1034(d/1 kpc)2erg s-1, respectively. This suggests estimate of the emission region size and luminosity of SSS based on the blackbody model fit to PSPC data are not reliable.
