A homogeneous and isotropic model in empty space with a cosmological constant in the presence of a classical scalar field with cubic nonlinearity is examined. Consideration is also given to the model in a linear scalar field. Solutions for a de Sitter type of metric in the presence of a nonlinear scalar field are derived. It is observed that the scale factor tends to zero and the scale field tends to infinity at infinite past, and that the model bounces back from a maximum of volume unlike that of the usual de Sitter case, which is only indefinitely expanding.
