Neutral hydrogen (H i) rotation curves of several nearby galaxies will allow us to model the mass distribution of their gas disks and characterize their dark-matter content. We are exploring ways of classifying galaxies by their rotation curves. Additionally we hope to detect features that do not orbit with the disk. These anomalous velocity features provide important clues about a galaxy's evolution since they are either due to gravitational interactions or star-formation processes. This poster presents our preliminary exploration of the rotation-curve classification criteria, curve fitting, and modelling of the mass distribution of the gas disk. We also plan to apply a genetic algorithm to the H i data in order to determine a family of suitable gravitation potentials for darkmatter halos.
