The effect of second-order Fermi acceleration of relativistic electrons in the vicinity of shock waves surrounding supernovae is investigated using the cosmic ray electron transport equation. The ability of such an acceleration process to modify significantly the spectral indices that would otherwise be produced by a Bell-type acceleration scenario is addressed. It is shown that the acceleration process causes the spectral indices to become less dependent on the SN dynamics, leading to a statistical distribution in good agreement with observations.
