The authors have obtained broadband photometry (UBVRIJHKLM) and high-dispersion spectra of the peculiar Be star HD 89249 (=MWC 200). The red spectra show faint absorption lines of neutral metals (Fe I, Ni I, Ca I etc). which are typical for K stars. The energy distribution also indicates that a K star contributes to the observed flux in the red and infrared part of the spectrum. Thus the authors suggest that HD 89249 is a composite of a Be star and a K star. Around Hα, the K star is fainter than the Be star by about one mag.
