Data and designations for earth grazers discovered in the 1985-1987 period are presented, and a new system for calculating the magnitudes of minor planets is proposed. The new system involves the determination of both the absolute visual magnitude of the object and the parameter G, which describes the decrease in magnitude with the phase angle (with the phase angle defined as the earth-sun angular distance as seen from the minor planet). Data on orbit, diameter, and real and possible approaches to the earth are given in tabular form for the 29 objects considered. One-hundred-sixteen known asteroids, identified up to the end of 1987, are classified as three types of earth grazers, Aten, Apollo, and Amor.
