A time variability study of the 22.2 GHz emission of the strong H2O maser in Cepheus A has been carried out in the time period October 1980 - April 1985 using the 14-m radio telescope at Metsähovi. The authors describe the equipment, the observing and the calibration methods used in this monitoring program. The observations were made with a time interval of typically from 2 weeks to one month, but for three occasions they monitored the source on an almost daily basis. The individual spectra are presented in this paper and the long term time variability features are briefly discussed.
