The Eridanus shell/cavity has a known distribution of cold H I and warm Hα gas, near the Sun. Observations with the VLA of the polarization of background quasars and galaxies seen through and outside the shell have made possible a search for an excess Faraday rotation in the shell gas, by removing the contribution from the interstellar medium of our Galaxy as seen in quasars and galaxies outside the shell. Only a two-sigma upper limit of 46 rad m-2 for such an excess rotation measure is obtained.
