Accurate Fourier parameters are presented for a large and homogeneous sample of classical Cepheids in the Galaxy. The extensive photoelectric survey by Moffett and Barnes forms the basis for our study. For the Johnson V magnitude we systematically display the data distributions in relevant diagrams and perform a comparison with the B, R, and I distributions. In the Fourier analysis we incorporate calculation of standard errors for individual parameters. The present study emphasizes the concepts recently introduced by Stellingwerf and Donohoe (SD): phase, skewness, and acuteness. The application to the Cepheid sample of the SD phase definition gives a very simple Fourier description in good agreement with their simple models. The Fourier parameters are found to be primarily specified by skewness and acuteness. Using estimated light curve parameters, we select a group of sinusoidal Cepheids. A remarkable drop in the SD phase of the second harmonic is apparent for periods near 3d. As a separate investigation we search additional double mode Cepheids the intention being to identify possible double mode Cepheids having a small amplitude of the secondary component. Power spectra are calculated by means of simultaneous least squares fit with two periods. The high detection sensitivity of the method is demonstrated by applying it to the data for 8 known double mode Cepheids. No new double mode Cepheid is identified.
