Integrated (B-V)0 and (U-B)0 colors and synthetic HR diagrams of stellar clusters are obtained as a function of age with the aid of stellar models that incorporate the effects of convective overshoot all over their major evolutionary phases. The possibility that a large spread in the colors of real clusters exists due to stochastic fluctuations in the mass distribution of stars is discussed. The calibrating relationships are used to date a few test clusters. The color gap is addressed, fixing its real boundaries and examining whether it can be simply attributed to sudden transitions in the integrated properties of stellar clusters. The age distribution of the LMC clusters is obtained, and no evidence is found of periods of inactivity in the cluster formation history. The color distribution function is calculated and compared with the observed one. It is concluded that the color gap is not caused by phase transitions occurring in the stellar content of individual clusters, but primarily reflects cluster formation versus disruption activity that occurred in the LMC cluster population.
