The possibility that the brightness of certain quasars could be due to gravitational lensing of their light is addressed. It is argued that the existence of a black hole in such quasars could produce this brightness without the need for gravitational lensing. It is also argued that, since the brightest quasars occur only at relatively close distances, there is a lack of foreground galaxies to serve as lenses.
