Mendoza and Johnson measured twelve late type stars, among the stars in the Bright Star Catalogue which appear to have larger trigonometric parallaxes than their spectra would suggest. We have employed the usual methods of statistical parallaxes to test the average trigonometric parallax value. Our results are consistent with the hypothesis that these objects are late lower border-line giants.
