The cooling and collapse of Population III objects for masses about equal to and masses much less than the Jeans mass is investigated starting from the recombination era. The results indicate that the first bound systems were equal to about 10,000 solar masses and that the collapse of the clouds was not significantly delayed by the internal pressure. After turnaround, when the radius of a cloud had decreased to half its value at turnaround, the temperature did not rise adiabatically, the concentration of hydrogen molecules remained low, and the fractional ionization did not become small. The damping of isothermal density fluctuations during the recombination era was not appreciable.
