The detection of solar neutrinos through their elastic scattering off electrons in a water molecule is considered. The water molecules would be the detection medium in a water Cerenkov counter. The detection rate for solar neutrinos in water is calculated for various neutrino oscillation parameters and detector thresholds. The authors consider neutrino oscillations that occur in the Sun as well as in the Earth. A water Cerenkov experiment which measures the solar neutrino flux can verify the presence of neutrino oscillations implied by the results of the 37Cl experiment; for low thresholds it can also resolve an ambiguity in the oscillation parameters which could arise in the proposed 71Ga experiment.
