Variables: Detection

Scientific paper

In July 1998, as part of the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol, the author commenced a search for novae. On an exposure of the Deneb field, obtained on 1999 Jan 11.81 UT, the author detected a variable object near Deneb. The star, located at: RA 20h43.7, DEC +44°29' (2000), was of magnitude 10.7 whereas on 1998 Dec 28.754 UT it was near the limit at 11.6. A study of previous observations shows that this newly discovered variable star has two designations, NSV 13262 and GSC 3178.00545. Previous observations also show a brightening in November 1998.
