The authors report on the discovery of a star very close (1arcsec.9 southeast) to the AM Her type system, QQ Vul. The colour and spectrum suggest it to be a background G or K type star. Infrared observations of QQ Vul are likely to be affected by this companion; in particular, the authors revise the distance estimate for QQ Vul based on its K magnitude as a function of possible spectral type of the companion.
