The paper presents data on the evolution of the accretion disk during an outburst cycle. Observations of the early rise to outburst in VW Hydri indicate that the disk has effective temperatures around 6000 K in this stage. Outburst computations based on constant alpha values for the cool disk reveal that the disk instability model predicts such temperatures in extended outer disk regions. It is noted that the detailed temperature distribution before the onset of the instability is determined by the shape of the f-Sigma relation.
