An optical envelope of 50 kpc maximum diameter, or nearly twice the Holmberg diameter, has been revealed by digital processing of a 2.6-m telescope plate of the galaxy Mrk 348. Six-meter telescope spectra of a galaxy physically associated with Mrk 348 yield a radial velocity of 4833 + or - 41 km/sec for the companion, implying that the entire system has an orbital mass of 3 x 10 to the 11th solar masses, and a 15 solar mass/luminosity ratio. Together with its optical envelope, Mrk 348 has a mass of about 10 to the 11th solar masses.
