Although various studies of the hotspots at the outer edges of powerful double 3CR sources have suggested positive correlations between source luminosity, hotspot size, and the fraction of emission in hotspots, these results have been inconclusive, mainly due to the limited angular resolution of the observations. Another way of studying hotspots is by their effect on the integrated radio spectra of the sources concerned: on the assumption that low-frequency spectral curvature is due to synchrotron self-absorption in the hotspots, parameters for the hotspots may be derived. The results for a sample of 3CR sources are consistent with the correlations found previously.
