We present optical and infrared light curves for the RR Lyrae stars V445 Oph, SS Leo and VY Ser. We also present radial-velocity curves for V445 Oph and SS Leo. Using these, plus previously published observations, we derive absolute magnitudes for the three stars using a variation of the Baade-Wesselink method. We find =0.29 and 0.63 for the metal-poor stars SS Leo and VY Ser and = 1.18 for the metal-rich RR Lyrae V445 Oph. Our results for VY Ser are compared with previous Baade-Wesselink work on this star and the discrepancies analysed. Finally we discuss the main sources of error in our method, in particular the errors associated with the radial-velocity curve.
