Transiting planets have profoundly impacted our understanding of exoplanets because these systems permit direct measurements of their masses and radii. With the exception of COROT-7b, all known transiting planets are large Neptune- or Jupiter-sized objects. By targeting nearby M-dwarf stars, a transit search using modest equipment is capable of discovering planets as small as 2 Earth radii in the habitable zones of their host stars. The MEarth observatory has been in operation for one year and will ultimately survey 2,000 nearby M-dwarfs. I will describe the survey design and operations, and present some encouraging results about our sensitivity to sub-Neptune transiting planets around M-dwarfs.
