Irradiation essentially influences the structure of accretion disks in X-ray binaries. Instead of the dwarf novae outbursts, only a diffusive instability is found. The vertical structure of irradiated disks and the resulting viscosity-surface density relation are computed. Estimates for expected irradiation temperatures are given and it is shown that, for a range of these irradiation temperatures, self-excited oscillations of the mass flow rate through the disk occur.
