An application of a CCD-camera and a focal reducer to deep surface photometry of early-type galaxies is presented. Empty sky exposures are used to achieve precise flattening and two-dimensional subtraction of the sky background, which is shown to be accurate to few 0.1 percent of the initial sky brightness. Tests and first results are given for the photometry standards NGC 3379, NGC 4486, and NGC 3115. Brightness profiles are measured down to 3.0 - 4.8 mag/sq arcsec below the sky, reaching radii of 260 - 380 arcsec at brightness levels of 7.9 - 10 mag/sq arcsec below the central surface brightness for these objects.
