We present a series of arguments leading to a model for the Orion gamma-ray emission. In particular, we address the crucial question of the origin of the energetic particles interacting with the molecular cloud complex. We show that it is very unlikely that these particles are accelerated within the clouds themselves, and propose that they originate from the Orion-Eridanus superbubble, located in front of the Orion clouds. Generalisation to other OB association-molecular cloud pairs is possible.
