ESA's Mercury Orbiter (MO) mission has both planetary and Earth-magnetospheric scientific objectives. The present overview of the MO concept considers the currently envisioned system design and operational characteristics, which must support the mission's complete multispectral imaging of the planet, an analysis of its spectral composition, observations of the planetary magnetic field, and an investigation of Mercury's magnetospheric structure and dynamics.
