The incoherent scatter radar at Chatanika, Alaska has been used to develop a technique for the investigation of TIDs. Using one wave event, the technique was used to compute the period of oscillation (36.5 min), the southward velocity (208 m/sec), and the power profile. A possible source event for the TID in question has been identified as a filamentary auroral arc moving southward toward Chatanika. The investigation has interesting implications for energy transfer by waves from the auroral region to lower latitudes.
