The paper derives and solves an integral equation for the phase density of spherical systems of gravitating bodies with an ellipsoidal velocity distribution. It is shown that for the special case of an isotropic velocity distribution, the solution reduces to the one obtained by Eddington. In addition, the Parenago and Schuster-Plummer potentials are utilized to construct new phase models.
