The method of determining the spatial orientations of close binaries from their intrinsic polarization, as first described by Shakhovskoj, is refined and extended using recent observational and theoretical developments. In particular, the direction of revolution of a binary is used to determine whether its angular momentum is directed towards or away from the observer. This reduces the number of possible orientations for its angular momentum from four to two. The method is then applied to eight binaries for which phase-synchronous variations in the linear polarization have been observed. The two possible directions for the angular momentum of each system are tabulated.
