The effect of a nearby boundary on thermal radiation relaxation times in a semi-infinite medium has been examined for gray and exponential band models. Noticeable variations from relaxation time in an infinite medium are confined to a region within one wavelength of the boundary. A reflecting boundary has a lesser effect than a transparent one and the asymptotic behavior of the two band models are quite distinct for optically thick waves.
